There is nothing more festive than the aromas of cinnamon and star anise, when making your own home-made mulled wine. Mingle that with alpine smell of a fresh Christmas tree and you cant help being put the the spirit of the season. Put some old classic Christmas music one and head to the kitchen to create some seriously festive ambiance, ready to wow any passing friends or family.
What you need
- 1 bottle of red wine (Any will do, but we like a Merlot)
- 250ml of orange juice
- 100ml of water
- 50ml of peach schnapps
- 1/2 orange
- 5g of star anise
- 3g of cloves
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1 cardamom pod
- 1 bay leaf
How to Make
Its so very easy, combine the red wine, orange juice, peach schnapps and water in a saucepan. Add the bay leaf, cardamom pod, cinnamon stick, cloves, orange zest, thyme and star anise and bring to the boil. Simmer gently for 15-20 minutes, don’t boil.
Pass through a sieve and in to a jug. It’s really that simple, and it’s delicious
