The Falmouth Hotel have recently been lucky enough to welcome a young man from Falmouth who was “lost” after his mother died of cancer has raised over £100 for Cancer Research with a sponsored exercise bike ride.

Tom Clements, 22, who has dyslexia and dyspraxia, said he depended on his mother for her help, right up until her death three years ago and has since had to adjust to life without her.

He now volunteers at the local Cancer Research store in Falmouth, and in an attempt to repay something back to the charity he has also spent twelve hours on an exercise bike at The Falmouth Hotel to raise funds.

Tom was originally meant to be riding for six hours, but after his first session, he was invited back to the hotel to repeat his feat during a launch on the lawn event – to mark the opening of The Falmouth Hotels new  luxury self-catering suites.

He said: “On the day I think we raised about £30, and the Falmouth Hotel was doing a launch on the lawn… they asked me to do another six hours on the bike and I think we raised more then.

“I’m trying to get all the sponsor money together but I reckon we raised about £100.”

He added: “It was really good. I took it easy for the first couple of hours. Of course, I was tiring near the end but I felt really good about it.”

Tom said he had a lot of support, and thanked his good friend Stacey Mannix for her help, as well as the staff at the Falmouth Hotel. who he said were “really helpful.”

Good luck rasing more money in the future Tom!
